A good rug can really make or break a room. It can also be the facelift you're looking for to bring new life to a room...some may say a new rug is as room changing as a fresh coat of paint.
There are many different rugs on the market and also quite different ways to place them.
In my eyes you can never go too big with a rug. It grounds the room and frames a space. The larger the rug, the more luxurious and grand the space will feel. Using rugs will also add warmth and comfort to your room, particularly in these colder months...and on a practical side, will protect your timbers floor boards from getting scratched.
If you choose an abundant sized rug, make sure you leave at least a 20-30cm gap between the rug and the wall. Having a large rug will allow you to place all the furniture on it and really frame the space.
In contrast, a smaller rug size needs to be chosen carefully and consideration needs to be taken for the furniture placement as well. There is nothing worse than tripping on a rug or getting the legs of your dining chair caught on it. The same can be said for a rug under a coffee table. Make sure you lay it in the same direction as the coffee table so it frames the table and is comfortable to the eye. This will also ensure you have a clear path around the table.

At Alfresco Emporium we stock many different types of rugs from natural jute, woolen dhurries through to synthetic outdoor rugs. Don't be too shy or conservative when it comes to choosing a rug. Think of the style, practicality and 'feeling' you want to create and choose your rugs accordingly. Some of the most stunning rooms I have seen recently start with a bold geometric patterned rug. They are very classy and really set the tone for the room. They also look great in a bedroom. My favourites would have to be our dhurrie rugs at the top of this post, which are all handmade (no child labour) in India. They are handcrafted from 100% virgin wool fibres and come in a lovely selection of colours. They are a flat weave which makes them perfect for under a dining table as dining chairs won't trip on the weave. Our dhurrie rugs are available in-store only, however, if you would like more information or to organise delivery, you can email us.
The most popular rugs are by far the natural jute rugs. They are hard wearing and just seem to go with everything. We have a vast selection available exclusive to Alfresco Emporium. The weaves and textures vary and we have a variety of patterns, shapes (including rectangular, round & runners) and colours available. Natural jute rugs are easy to care for and can withstand a high traffic area.

We also stock Armadillo rugs which are a wool/jute blend and have a beautiful sophisticated quality to them.
